Rabbeinu Avraham Binyomin Wolf Hamburg was born in 1770 in Fürth. He was raised by his widowed mother and writes fondly about her in the introduction to his sefer Simlas Binyamin. Rav Wolf studied in Fürth under the luminaries Rav Wolf Ulman and Rav Meshulem Zalmen Katz (author of Bigdei Kehuna). Years later, Rav Wolf himself was appointed the Rosh Yeshiva; under his leadership the Yeshiva educated thousands of students, including luminaries such as Rav Yaakov Ettlinger (author of Aruch L’ner) and Rav Yitzchak Dov Bamberger (The Würzburger Rav). Rav Wolf authored many works including Simlas Binyamin and Nachlas Binyamin which contain his responsa and novellea pertaining to Yoreh Deah subjects, as well as Shaar Hazekeinim which contains many speeches and halachic rulings. Rav Avraham Binyomin Hamburg passed away in 1850.
