Rabbeinu Shimon Schwab was born in Frankfurt in 1908. He received his initial education in the Hirsch-Realschule in Frankfurt, and in the Yeshiva of Frankfurt under Rav Shlomo Breuer. At age 17, he traveled eastward to study in the Yeshivos of Telshe and Mir. Rav Schwab served as the Rav of multiple Kehillos in Germany, and attempted to start a Yeshiva in Ichenhausen which was shuttered by the Nazis immediately after its opening. In 1936, Rav Schwab was appointed as the Rav of the Shearith Israel Shul in Baltimore which had been founded in 1851 by Rav Avraham Rice (a student of Rav Avraham Binyamin Wolf Hamburg). While there, Rav Schwab authored numerous seforim and became one of the leaders of American Jewry. In 1958, Rav Schwab joined Rav Yosef Breuer on the Rabbinate of K’hal Adas Jeshurun in New York. At this post, Rav Schwab pressed forward on his mission of disseminating Torah, and together with Rav Breuer founded a Mesivta, Bais Medrash, Kollel, and Bais Yaakov. Rav Schwab served in that position for 37 years until his passing on Purim Katan in 1995
