Rabbeinu Shlomo Wolbe was born in Berlin in 1914. In 1933, Rav Wolbe joined Bais Medrash L’Rabbonim in Berlin, and he later joined Rav Yosef Breuer’s Yeshiva (Torah Lehranstal) in Frankfurt. Rav Wolbe continued his learning in Switzerland under Rav Boczko, and then in the Mir Yeshiva in Poland. Upon the outbreak of World War II, Rav Wolbe fled to Sweden and helped in various hatzala efforts. In 1946 Rav Wolbe moved to Eretz Yisroel and for the next half of a century headed numerous Yeshivos and other Torah movements. Rav Wolbe was a master writer and authored numerous works, the most famous of which is the Alei Shur, a comprehensive ethics companion. Rav Shlomo Wolbe passed away in 2008 in Yerushalayim.
