Rabbeinu Yosef Yuzl Rundeskopf was born in Frankfurt at the turn of the 18th century. His maternal grandfather was a well-known and wealthy Torah scholar named Rav Lemele (Osher) Günzburg (son of Rav Shimon Günzburg of Posen). Rav Yosef authored the sefer Toras Yosef explaining the drashos of mesorah in the Torah (similar to the work of the Baal Haturim). It was first published in 1725 and quickly gained widespread recognition as a comprehensive work on the subject, and is mentioned by the Chida in Shem Hagedolim. He also wrote a sefer on the Taryag Mitzvos titled Toras Moshe (in memory of his father) but it seems this work was never published. Rav Yosef was a Dayan in Fürth, and after the passing of Rabbeinu Baruch Rappaport, was one of the two representatives of the Kehilla who brought Rabbeinu Dovid Strauss to lead the Kehilla. Rav Yosef Yuzl Rundeskopf passed away in 1770 and was buried in Frankfurt.
